Building goes beyond bricks and mortar for Wates – a company that is tireless in its ambition to build an inclusive workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Every year, Wates publishes an Inclusion & Diversity Impact Report that communicates the progress it’s making in creating a fairer and more equitable workplace for all. The report is read by a wide audience including government, stakeholders, existing and potential customers, employees, and prospective talent.
With inclusivity high on the agenda for Wates, this year’s report needed to demonstrate its commitment to building a fair workplace for all through the #WatesTogether approach and highlight the personal stories of those who have felt the impact of Wates’ inclusion and diversity initiatives.
Responsible for both the written content and design, we were excited to refresh the latest report and inject a new feeling of inclusivity, transparency and optimism.
After defining the report’s structure, we developed clear and concise reporting of the key information, including statistics, impact stories and programme updates. Using simple language, varied sentence structures and easy-to-read formats helped make the report a fully accessible read.
The creative theme focused on bringing clarity to important topics. With the insight that those in underrepresented groups can often feel alone or misunderstood within society, we used a glass effect to focus on key people, initiatives and topics. This creative element aligns with the focus and attention Wates is bringing to underrepresented communities within the organisation through its inclusion and diversity initiatives.
We brought Wates’ inclusion and diversity initiatives into focus, highlighting the actions that have been taken during this past year to create a fairer and more equitable workforce. We featured personal stories in the form of quotes throughout the report to add authenticity and human touch, and highlight the impact the positive effect different initiatives are having on employees.
The report also needed to include Wates’ Gender Pay Gap and Ethnicity Pay Gap data. In a sector where issues include a higher proportion of men vs women in the workforce, it was imperative we were transparent with the data and presented it in a clear way to help readers understand what the data means and why it is important.
As part of the project, we developed a new visual for Wates’ inclusion and diversity strategy – #WatesTogether. We brought the three pillars of the strategy together in one graphic that was then used throughout the report to align the content with the #WatesTogether strategy.
"Many thanks to you and the team for your partnership in this project. I am pleased with the final report and really glad with the outcome. Please express my thanks to the entire team who have contributed to this report."
With a refreshed look and feel, the new report brought into focus the steps Wates is taking to build a fairer and more equitable workplace for all. It highlights Wates’ commitment to inclusion and diversity and the importance of the different initiatives within the organisation – bringing employees, customers and stakeholders on Wates’ journey of ensuring everyone within the organisation feels a sense of belonging.
